I can't begin to tell you how excited I am to nominate a first year teacher that has a class that has tested her patience and abilities to the limit. Ms. Crowley is a fourth grade teacher at Hannah Martin in Lake in the Hills. Ms. Crowley has trully been a blessing to me, my husband and daughter. My daughter had so many issues with her confidence, her patience and school work. My daughter did not want to get up and go to school. Then she met Ms. Crowley, Ms Crowley has turned my daughters life into a positive outlook. Her self confidence came out, she made friends, her grades went way up and most of all she loves to get up and go to school! I can only begin to tell you how much she deserves this award because there are not enough works to tell you how blessed we are to have her in our lives. We had been at a place in our lives that we did not know where to go from here then she came along and changed our world. I am so thankful to her and even if she does not win this award I just want her to know that she has been acknowledged. So as I am sure there are many teachers who deserve it because they all touch a childs life in some way that will carry with them forever and I am blessed that she touched my daughters life. I hope that she gets this months Teacher of the Month award. Thank you to Ms. Crowley and all teachers.

March Teacher of the Month
Lynn Fiala of the Woodstock Home State Bank presents Mr.Wade Scharlau of Harry D. Jacobs High School in Algonquin with the Home State Bank & Star 105.5, March "Teacher of the Month" award.

Pictured left to right are: Lynn Fiala of Home State Bank, Mr Scharlau, Sarah Zielinski and Michael Bergy Principal of Harry D. Jacobs High School.

My name is Sarah Zielinski and I am a senior at Harry D. Jacobs High School in Algonquin. As a senior I try to do everything I can to prepare myself for my upcoming college years. Part of that preparation for me was signing up for Advanced Placement Chemistry. Already having had Mr. Wade Scharlau as my Honors Physics teacher, I knew that I would be going through one of the hardest but best class thus far in my life.
Mr. Scharlau understands what incredible demand this class requires of the student. He also understands that in order for the student to succeed, he must demand a great deal from himself. Bottom line, he expects the best from us and from himself. To help us through the hard times he stays after school with us almost everyday or any day we need him. One time during finals preparation, Mr. Scharlau even came to a students house for a class study group on the weekend. He's always available to students during the off hours via email and usually responds within an hour or so.
Mr. Scharlau is by far the most committed, dedicated and caring teacher I have ever had and I do not know where I would be without him. He has helped me and countless others through stressful and confusing times. With college choices approaching and our lives in the real world about to begin, Mr. Scharlau has prepared me well for my college years. That is why I am nominating Mr. Scharlau for Teacher of the Month. If you ask anyone in his classes they would tell you the same thing, that Mr. Scharlau is the biggest science nerd but the greatest teacher.

Sarah Zielinski.

February Teacher of the Month
Lynn Fiala of Woodstock Home State Bank presents Wendy Hagy of the McCAP - McHenry County Adult Program with the February "Teacher of the Month"award.

Wendy Hagy's class was there to congratulate her as the February "Teacher of the Month" award

I would like to nominate Wendy Hagy teacher of the month. she is the teacher for a non-profit group called McCAP of which the students are past students of SEDOM. This is a small class that meets Mondays and Wednesdays at the Home State Bank in Woodstock.
It is not an easy task to work with multi disabled young adults and she has generously come to the program and has made such an impact on the students there. Her genuine concern for our young adults is amazing. While she has two assistants with her as well, she is the decision maker and the one that makes this program to continue to be alive. She has hooked up with NISRA and is able to take our students on different kinds of field trips, because unless the parents drive there is no other transportation.
What really made me think of nominating Wendy is that last year she made a calendar of all of the students for all of the parents with a different picture of an activity with the students each month. I thought that was so neat, because of their lifestyles they are not easy to photography or go somewhere with someonewho would have the patience to photograph them. So this was definitely a keepsake that will be cherished forever. Then this year she really out did herself. I found myself crying with happy emotion fo the time spent. She had made a music CD/DVD (again with activities of what the students had done over the last year). I was marveled at what this was all about and it was again phenomenal of our young adults.

For this alone, is the reason to nominate Wendy Hagy for teacher of the month. again it is very time consuming and takes a lot of patience to work with disabled young adults with multiple needs. Pushing wheelchairs, feeding, etc. especially when going on field trips.
I as you to strongly consider this fine teacher for your teacher of the month. I realize that this is a teacher for a small group but none the less she is a teacher. and works just as hard as a regulat education teacher.

January "Teacher of the Month"
Leslie Smith (right) of Home State Bank, Lake in the Hills presents Mrs. Susan Sawyer (left) of Martin Elementary School with the January "Teacher of the Month" award.
Also pictured are Traci Colby (center right) and her son Parker (center left).

Mrs. Sawyer is a 3rd grade teacher at Martin Elementary School in Lake in the Hills, Illinois. She served our country in the Navy and is an excellent teacher. She takes her time to assist and help kids that need that little extra help with anything that they may be needing help with. My son, Parker is ADHD and she goes that extra special mile to help him with assignments, projects and homework. She's very friendly and loves the children she teaches and all the children absolutely love her! She is dedicated and very structured and I feel she is a HUGE asset to Martin and all her students!! She would make an excellent
"Teacher of the Year!" already. She believes in positive reinforcement which is a great because there are so many negative things in this world already. So I would be honored to nominate her for this award. Thank you for everything!! Mrs. Sawyer is the absolute best!!!

December Teacher of the Month
Katherine Nimmer of Home State Bank, Lake in the Hills presents Mrs Carrie Curry of Westfield Middle School with the December "Teacher of the Month" award.

Hello, My name is Alex,
I would like to nominate my Literature teacher as teacher of the month, Mrs. Curry.
Mrs. Curry ia a wonderful teacher and she knows my whole family. I had her as a gym teacher when she was pregnant with her second child, Megan. Mrs. Curry loves to talk about her children and we enjoy hearing about them. I haven't seen Mrs. Curry up until this year when I found out she was one of my teachers on my team, 7B at Westfield Community School. I remember one day my close friend, Hayleigh, wasn't feeling well and the nurse wouldn't send her home since she had no fever. Well Hayleigh, was slumped over on her desk with her head down while we all were working and Mrs. Curry, out of the kindness in her heart, offered Hayleigh a Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich. Then, the class was begging for one, so we all got a sandwich.

Mrs. Curry is also a really forgiving person, she knows that we are all human and we make mistakes as 7th graders.  There was one day I was having trouble with some kids and they were picking on me and being mean in general. So I told Mrs. Curry and she helped me threw it. She called all of us out in the hallway and talked to us about it.

Mrs. Curry isn't just a wife, mother, and teacher, she is also like my second mother. At the age of thirty seven, she is still doing what she does best at the one place where she belongs. You would be missing out on a lot if you don't pick my teacher, Mrs. curry as teacher of the month.

November Teacher of the Month
Katherine Nimmer (right) of Home State Bank, presents Mr. Mike Lodico of Westfield Middle School with the November "Teacher of the Month" award.

At this time I would like to nominate my son Dylan's Middle School teacher Mr. Lodico.  He teaches science at Westfield Middle School in Algonquin, IL. Currently he is out on medical leave but in the short time that my son has had him as a teacher, he has blossomed. My son never really cared for school and learning new things could sometimes be challenging for him. Once he started middle school and was in Mr. Lodico's class, he looks forward to school and going that class especially. Mr. Lodico approaches learning with an open, honest and humorous method. He makes the kids laugh and look forward to learning. His approach teaches the children to hold what they learn because he gets down on their level and presents the information to them in a way that makes sense. My son talks about Mr. Lodico all the time and always with a smile on his face. This teacher has single-handily made my son enjoy school and look forward to learning. Mr Lodico is currently out on leave because he has stage 3 cancer but instead of letting it get him down he showed the children he teaches that no matter what life deals you, you can face it head on with a positive attitude and keep on going. This is a lesson that I know my son and even myself can take with us for the rest of our lives. He let the children see that you can be knocked down but facing your fears and problems is not hard to do as long as you keep the right attitude. I pray for him every day that he can beat this because his teaching philosophy is something all teachers should be able to benefit from. All children he teaches takes a part of him with them wherever they go and he makes learning more fun and life easier to deal with.

Teacher of the Month
Lynn Fiala (right) from the Woodstock Home State Bank presents Becky Aldridge of Woodstock High School the October "Teacher of the Month" award.

I would like to nominate Becky Aldridge at Woodstock High School.
Becky Aldridge has been a teacher of my daughter over the past two years and is now currently a teacher for one of her classes. When I first started working with Becky, I knew then that my daughter was lucky to have a teacher like her. Becky is always very patient with her students, and she has always shown how much she cares.
I knew that caring and compassion was always a positive trait of hers, but I came to realize over this past month how much of those traits really portray who Becky is. My daughter, 17 years old lost her father in a motorcycle accident the beginning of this month. From the time that I had to go to the school to break the news to my daughter, Becky was there to help. Just to be there for my daughter I can't explain the support she gave. My daughter went back to school the day after the funeral and she has continued to do so. Becky has become her "lifeline" at school - able to locate Becky at anytime during the day to get comfort or just to talk. Becky even tells my daughter her schedule if it is different so that she knows where to go; she also has given my daughter her cell and home numbers so that my daughter can call Becky at anytime. I can't say enough about Becky, but what I can say is that I don't think my daughter would be doing as well as she is if it weren't for Becky. Being 17, a junior in high school, with the situation that was dealt my daughter, there were so many other avenues that my daughter could have choses - one of them giving up. I am so proud of my daughter for her strength that she has found - and I am so very thankful for Becky for helping her find that strength; tears come to my eyes as I write this.
While all of my daughter's teachers have been understanding of my daughter, Becky has definitely gone above & beyond her "call of duty".
Please choose Becky as Teacher of the Month. I can't think of anyone else who deserves it more.

September Teacher of the Month
Lynn Fiala (left) from Home State Bank, presents Melanie Stock of Northwood Middle School in Woodstock with the September "Teacher of the Month" award.

I would like to nominate Melanie Stock for the "Teacher of the Month," award. She has been working at Northwood Middle School for seven years. She is the volleyball coach, Reading teacher and the Language Arts teacher. Mrs. Stock always tries to make learing fun and easy by creating songs, dances, chants, charts and colorful graphs. She is also very honest. If she is having a bad day she will tell us, so we won't get on her nerves even more. If Mrs. Stock is worried about us, she will not keep it a secret. She will tell us why she is worried about us. She is fun, but also very serious about paying attention and learning. We can tell when it is time to stop goofing off when we see her just sitting quietly not doing anything. If we don't stop talking and goofing around, she will give us a pep talk we will never forget. Mrs. Stick also pormotes a lot of group acivities. She wants us to branch out, meet new people, and mostly have confidence in ourselves. She says that for kids in her classes to go to the seventh grade with more confidence than they had before they came to sixth grade, is her main goal in life. Another wish, she has in her life, is to get the "Golden Apple," one of the biggest awards a teacher can get. By nominating her for the "Teacher of the Month," I hope she feels one step closer to winning the "Gloden Apple." Mrs. Stock deserves this award very much for being a great coach, determined teacher, and positive role model for every one of her students at Northwood Middle School. Some of her peers and students feel like I do, That she is a great teacher. I have included their signatures on the next page.

Thank You,
Josephine Lindsey-Robbins
