Shannon McCarty, Miss Crystal Lake 2007 and former Star 105.5 intern passed away on Friday, April 18th.
The first time I met Shannon was at the Crystal Lake Regatta last summer. She was wearing her Miss Crystal Lake sash and was grinning ear to ear when she introduced herself to me.
When I found out Shannon was coming on board to intern at the radio station, I was so excited to have her join us. She was just what we were looking for: smart, friendly and incredibly driven.
Shannon's first live broadcast was with me, outdoors on a really cold day and together we ran into lots of technical difficulties, not to mention a woman that asked Shannon to keep an eye on her dog and didn't come back for the longest time! I'm smiling now just remembering that day. Shannon managed to operate equipment she'd never seen, calm down the frazzled staff (um, that would be me) and dogsit for a stranger, all on her first day. She was calm and cool and we got through the day with plenty of laughter. From that point on, I always hoped that Shannon would be on the schedule with me.
I am so deeply saddened by the loss of Shannon because she was such an incredible person. She consistently impressed me with her wit, her motivation and her outlook.
I will miss you tremendously, Shannon and I am thankful for the time we did spend together.
